Honey Facial Mask

If you are getting ready for a special date with your honey on Valentine’s Day or anytime you want a refreshing natural facial, just reach for the honey jar.. Honey was prized for its healing properties in ancient civilizations. It was used medicinally for a variety of reasons. One aspect of honey’s healing properties is with skin care. Honey makes an incredible mask for your skin all by itself or you can add other edible ingredients to tailor to your specific needs. Use a honey mask several times a week and notice improvement in your skin’s tone and softness. Since honey is edible, you can sneak a taste and it doesn’t expose the skin to the chemicals found in most beauty products. So whip up a mask and save some honey for a cup of tea to enjoy while relaxing into your facial.
Here are four recipes for honey face masks designed for specific skin types:

Tips.
Before applying the mask, wash your face with warm water and pat dry with a clean towel or steam your face. This is simply to open up your pores so the nutrients of the mask can sink deep into your skin.
Avoid the eye and mouth area when applying the mixture as these are more sensitive compared to other parts of your face and the tightening and stretching of the mask may cause wrinkles.

1. Sensitive Skin
2 teaspoons honey ( WP’s Buckwheat Honey works well)
1 teaspoon juice of Aloe Vera, fresh or gel.

Combine the aloe and honey together until well mixed/ Apply over face, avoiding the sensitive eye areas. Leave it on for about 15 to 20 minutes. Aloe soothes inflammation and work well for sensitive, irritated skin.

2. Dry Skin
1 teaspoon mashed avocado
1 teaspoon plain whole milk yogurt

Vegan version and you could use coconut oil instead of yogurt.
1 teaspoon honey ( WP’s Avocado Honey is great for this)

Blend ingredients in a bowl until smooth. Apply to face and let it sit for 20-30 minutes. The fats in the avocado and whole milk yogurt as well as the honey are moisturizing to the skin. The lactic acid in the yogurt smoothes the skin, helps refine pores, and stimulates collagen production.

3. Mask for Acne-Prone Skin
3 teaspoons honey (WP’s Buckwheat is a good choice)
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Mix honey and cinnamon together. Apply tor face avoiding the sensitive eye area. Leave the mask on for 15 to 30 minutes. The antibacterial properties of both honey and cinnamon are especially beneficial for acne-prone skin.
Note that Cinnamon can occasionally be irritating to certain individuals so you might want to try some on your hand first and see how you react.

4. Mask for Dark Spots and Scars
2 teaspoons honey (WP’s Avocado works well)
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
Combine the lemon juice and honey, Appl tor face avoiding the sensative eye areas. Keep it ont for 20 to 30 minutes. Lemon juice exfoliates skin, brightens dark spots and fades scars. It will take repeated applications to notice a real difference in scars and spots but skin should feel softer right away.
