Winter Park Honey’s Sweet-N-Green Tea

Sweet Matcha Green Tea Honey

Every ingredient that goes into this new product is 100% organic. The honey crystals are made from organic honey and organic sugar cane juice. The organic green tea in this product is unique in that it is made from the whole tea leaf–not brewed. The entire leaf is finely ground and is known as Matcha, used in the traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony.

Matcha, literally “powdered tea,” is a special type of green tea–a precious, jewel-green powder that is whisked with hot water in a bowl to make a frothy beverage of the same name. Preparation of Matcha is the focus of the Japanese tea ceremony and has a long association with Zen. Matcha is the only form of tea in which the whole leaf is consumed, and because it is made from top-quality leaves that are treated with great care, it delivers more of the healthful elements of green tea than other forms. In fact, To match the potency of a single serving of Matcha you would need to drink ten cups of brewed green tea. A unique, beautiful and richly flavorful drink, Matcha gives most people a feeling of well-being.  In addition, the simple ritual of preparing it is both enjoyable and meditative.

What does this mean in the way of health benefits? Seventy percent of a green tea leaf is insoluble in water. Since the Matcha is ground and not brewed, you are receiving the whole food in a much more potent form. Secondly, since honey is naturally hygroscopic, it ensures that the green tea stays fresh.
Matcha tea also contains a unique, potent class of antioxidants know as catechins, which are not found in other foods. In 2003, researchers from the University of Colorado found that the concentration of the antioxidant EGCG, available from drinking Matcha, is at least three times greater than the amount of EGCG available from other commercially available green teas.

By weight, Matcha contains several dozen times more antioxidants than blueberries, pomegranates, orange juice, spinach, or dark chocolate. In particular, the catechin EGCG (epifallocatechin gallate) provides potent cancer-fighting properties. Most importantly, EGCG and other catechins counteract the effects of free radicals such as from pollution, UV rays, radiation, and chemicals, which can lead to cell and DNA damage. Matcha is also exceptionally high in theanine, an amino acid. Theanine promotes alpha-wave production in the the brain and aids focus and concentration.
