Pure raw honeycomb straight from the beehive. Made in the USA. Straight from the Apiary to the box. No preservatives. No freezing. 100% edible.
Honeycomb can be eaten by itself, and it makes an awesome unique hors d’oeuvres. Simply place the entire square of comb on a serving plate surrounded by your favorite cracker topped with some gorgonzola cheese. You will be the talk of the party and you won’t have any left to take home.
Bees create honeycomb as a storage medium for their honey. They store the honey to be eaten as needed. When a beekeeper wants bees to make honey for extraction, they help the bees by placing a plastic sheet of honeycomb in the bee hive. The bees attach honeycomb to the plastic and the plastic gives the structure strength so that it is not ripped apart in the honey extractor (i.e. so the wax can be reused). If the beekeeper wants the bees to make edible honeycomb, the plastic sheet is replaced with a pressed sheet of edible beeswax. Bees love building honeycomb on the plastic but not so much on the beeswax sheets. A very strong nectar flow is needed to convince bees to produce honeycomb on the beeswax sheets. These strong honey flows usually happen during an orange blossom or a gallberry nectar flow. Honeycomb from gallberry is typically a bright white while orange blossom honeycomb is often darker in color.
